Larry Elkin received his both his Master of Science (1995) and Bachelor of Science (1993) degrees from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He holds active registrations as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, & South Carolina (with inactive registrations in Alabama, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.) He is also a Certified Level II Thermographer. In 2013, he founded Elkin Engineering & Diagnostics, LLC. His principal areas of practice include Thermal & Moisture Related Diagnostics, Building Structure and Envelope Analyses, Mechanical Systems Assessments, Corrosion Analysis, Hurricane/Catastrophe Assessments and Facility Condition Assessments.

Jon Pennington, PE

Jon received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Georgia Tech specializing in structures. He is a practicing structural engineer and obtained over a decade of experience in consulting, design and structural investigations of buildings and other structures. He is capable in working with both existing structures and new construction. His skill areas are in computer analysis, seismic design, high wind design, and building code applications.

Since joining Elkin Engineering and Diagnostics, Jon has expanded his knowledge base in building science applications, moisture intrusion diagnostics, structural investigations and structural remediation. He has performed and reviewed building load calculations and analysis, overseen moisture investigations and destructive testing investigations, formulated building code based response reports and advised upon retrofit applications.

Jon is able to apply his understanding of structural building materials such as wood, concrete, steel, and masonry to the interaction with the complete building system.

Larry comes to Elkin Engineering and Diagnostics from Northwest Arkansas where he studied Civil and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He has a combined total of 20 years of experience in an engineering capacity ranging from Manufacturing to Civil design. Most recently while working for an international retailer supervising construction and upfit projects of various complexities, he was charged with generating daily communications between company and customers. Larry understands that communicating with diverse cross functional teams is essential to completing projects on target.

Larry's experience includes designing Large Scale Developments in a Land Development Civil engineering firm as a CAD Technician. Outside of using AutoCAD and Land Development software, he was responsible with code research and communicating with clients and municipalities.

At Elkin, Larry is responsible for drafting reports, completing CAD drawings and maintaining documentation for numerous accounts, while supporting the engineering staff. In this role, Larry will become certified by different organizations to enhance the staff’s ability to exceed our client expectations and needs.

Lee received his bachelor’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from The Citadel and has a background in structural design of specialty industrial equipment and support structures for various manufacturing and fabrication operations. His skill set includes Project Management and Design, including extensive experience using 3D modeling and simulation software, performing finite element analysis, and structural detailing. 

Since joining Elkin Engineering and Diagnostics, Lee has expanded his knowledge of building science, overseeing moisture investigations, destructive testing investigations, and performing structural investigations, analyses, and remediation designs. He has conducted various residential and light commercial structural investigations, analyses, and repair designs. He has performed multiple building envelope testing and analyses using Minneapolis Blower Doors, fog testing, and infrared thermography. He has completed multiple AAMA window spray testing and analyses. Lee is studying to become an AAMA certified fenestration master, and is in the process of getting Elkin Engineering to become the only AAMA certified field testing agency in South Carolina. He has completed the Exterior Design Institute EIFS Third Party Inspector Certification, Quality Control and Moisture Analyst Training Course.
